Arthur Migliazza
Meet Our Instructors
"Teaching is one of my biggest passions. Many professionals in the Blues world were so kind to me growing up, and taught me many things with exceeding patience. I love passing on the tradition and teaching people to play and enjoy this wonderful music!"
Boogie woogie piano is one of the primary elements of the blues and a significant element of jazz, rock and other popular music. Developed in the late 19th century in the South and reaching its peak just before and during WWII, there are relatively few genuine practitioners walking the basses today. Enter 88 keys master Arthur Migliazza from New York City. No retro academic, he lives and breathes new life into the adrenalin-fueled music while also applying its energy and exuberance to other related styles.
Arthur has been inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame, was a finalist at the 2010 and 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, and in his 20+ years of performing has been privileged to play on some of the world’s greatest stages, including Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow as part of the sold out Kings of Boogie Tour, the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, as well as on National Public Radio in the US. As a star of the critically acclaimed Off Broadway show BOOGIE STOMP!, Arthur performed at the Elektra Theater in Times Square, NYC for four months in 2015, often to sold out houses.
In 2014 he received the Best of the Blues Award for Best Keyboardist in Washington State and his 2014 album, Laying It Down, earned top 20 spots on the Roots Music Report, Blues Radio Society (France) and Bluesbeat Radio (Australia) charts, steady play on over 300 non-com radio stations including Sirius and XM Satellite Radio, and also appeared on the GRAMMY Entry List for the 2015 Grammy Award nominations.
His first instructional book, considered by many to be a benchmark in blues and boogie woogie piano instruction, is entitled How to Play Boogie Woogie Piano and is now available worldwide through publisher Hal Leonard.
In addition to being a performer, Arthur began teaching piano lessons at age 15. During the last 19 years he has frequently been a part of the staff at the internationally famous Augusta Blues Week in Elkins, WV and Centrum Blues Week in Port Townsend, WA.
